So, what's the point in 'Inventory Showcase' now, if I can't buy a valuable game and showcase it on my profile until the day I actually get time to play it..?

There are SO MANY things wrong with that. It's just not going to work for me. I'm leaving Steam forever.

PS: I'm not leaving Steam forever. That's the problem. We're all tied to each and any of their business decisions, whether or not they clash with our habits.

This is another reason why I want GOG to succeed. There is nothing better than DRM free and owning your own games. In terms of website is miles better than steam. The client is pretty good and improving.

The only thing that got me into steam was trading. Unfortunately GOG games don't get bundled much.
Steam has too much monopoly and control of the game market, and clearly needs some competitor to start honouring the people that use it every day. I bet a lot of the trading contributed to its success. I would even bet that humblebundle helped pushed it up significantly :(

Like lestrade said, we can't leave steam for now, but we can help the growth of other platforms, which should shaken their market share. Competition is a good thing.

I agree, competition is key for evolution in all areas, in this case to have a better service ad consumers.

Totally off-topic, sorry, but GOG is where I started, even though my GOG account is younger than my Steam account by over 2 years.

Here's my 'history' with beginning with Steam & all:
- January 2013, my favorite videogame magazine mentions Bastion is available for a buck or so in this or that bundle at humblebundle.com.
- I decide I can spare a buck into the game. I go there, register, read about Steam, open an account, redeem the game and a couple others, and... I don't feel comfortable with that mess, and give up on it.
- 2014. I acquire a retail copy of Child of Light (deluxe edition). It comes with a UPlay key. "Ohh... More of that crap?!" I end up downloading a pirate copy of the game just so I wouldn't have to bother (!).
- May 2015, I acquire a new video card + The Witcher 3, which comes as a GOG key. I really, really want to play the game so I end up creating a GOG account. I get addicted to having my playtimes properly shown in the game page. Then it's the summer sale. I end up buying a lot of games. I discover isthereanydeal.com and realize most games are cheaper on Steam. Which reminds me.. Bastion?! Okay, so I start playing Bastion. Oh gee, it also has a playtime counter! Cool! I end up buying more games at Steam. Then revisiting humblebundle then other game sites through isthereanydeal. I'm hooked.

Too long, didn't read: humblebundle.com was a contributing factor, but what really made me 'join' Steam was isthereanydeal. And playtimes. (If you were wondering why I insisted so much on importing playtimes on LT's... ;))

I will love GOG forever, but its Galaxy client doesn't hold a candle to Steam. I can't believe they're taking so long to go to feature parity... I mean, it's not THAT much work for most things.

So, since we can no longer buy gifts to trade for later, might as well share any good deals we find on the Steam store, to encourage people to buy them..? (Of course, we're never sure these aren't going to be bundled the following week, but there's always a risk involved...)

I took Alan Wake for myself last night. There's a 3.69€ package that contains the base game, + American Nightmare + collector's stuff, basically everything. The last time that package was that cheap was a couple years ago, so... Probably not a bad deal?

Alan Wake will be removed from steam in a while.
It's a fun game, good to pick it up while it's available

Oh, good to know... I wasn't even aware of that.
Maybe it'll just come back in a remastered version for $1 though... :P

As often is ;)

It's either that (Mafia 2, which later came back), or franchise licensing (Castle of Illusion... Also back! Prince Caspian probably too since it's also Disney... Never came back though), or replacing with a remastered version (Darksiders...), but it's never something like, "oh, my game doesn't sell anymore, let's just remove it from sale to make my accounting easier."[1]
 1. Except for my own game. Yes, I've always hated doing my taxes. I'm a fool.
