Totally off-topic, sorry, but GOG is where I started, even though my GOG account is younger than my Steam account by over 2 years.
Here's my 'history' with beginning with Steam & all:
- January 2013, my favorite videogame magazine mentions Bastion is available for a buck or so in this or that bundle at humblebundle.com.
- I decide I can spare a buck into the game. I go there, register, read about Steam, open an account, redeem the game and a couple others, and... I don't feel comfortable with that mess, and give up on it.
- 2014. I acquire a retail copy of Child of Light (deluxe edition). It comes with a UPlay key. "Ohh... More of that crap?!" I end up downloading a pirate copy of the game just so I wouldn't have to bother (!).
- May 2015, I acquire a new video card + The Witcher 3, which comes as a GOG key. I really, really want to play the game so I end up creating a GOG account. I get addicted to having my playtimes properly shown in the game page. Then it's the summer sale. I end up buying a lot of games. I discover isthereanydeal.com and realize most games are cheaper on Steam. Which reminds me.. Bastion?! Okay, so I start playing Bastion. Oh gee, it also has a playtime counter! Cool! I end up buying more games at Steam. Then revisiting humblebundle then other game sites through isthereanydeal. I'm hooked.
Too long, didn't read: humblebundle.com was a contributing factor, but what really made me 'join' Steam was isthereanydeal. And playtimes. (If you were wondering why I insisted so much on importing playtimes on LT's... ;))
I will love GOG forever, but its Galaxy client doesn't hold a candle to Steam. I can't believe they're taking so long to go to feature parity... I mean, it's not THAT much work for most things.
