Exporting Tradeables to Reddit / Steamtrades
« on November 3rd, 2017, 02:52 PM »
So traders go where the market is :lol: Of course the main feature request is for lestrades to do more activities to get users to sign up and actively trade on the platform (search growth marketing on the silicon valley type communities) :eheh:

Can we consider adding a feature to export tradeables to Reddit format?

e.g. each tradeables line item to export as follows, either in bullet point or table format

* [Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams](http://store.steampowered.com/app/223220/Giana_Sisters_Twisted_Dreams/) (may keep)

I think steamtrades just needs a list of tradeables line items

barter.vg has plenty of export options for comparison. It doesn't export to Reddit format though, only Markdown

I actually was trying to work out something earlier this week with regards to exporting to Steamtrades format, because I was trying to update my tradables over there and was just appalled at how hard it is (on mobile, their editing window is just so frigging laggy!). I was thinking something along the lines of, exporting to Steamtrades will generate a list of items with tags in brackets, sorted by Lestrade's ratio numbers or wishlist numbers (both of which generally implies better value), and special mentions like "Steam gift" (maybe even indicate all stores if they're tagged, but I don't know if it wouldn't take too much space... Then again it's not MY database space, lol, and more data = better findability.)

I have no idea what the reddit trading format is. I have never traded over there. Is that simply Markdown stuff..?
PS: I'm sure you'll forgive me if, if I added links in exported text, they were pointing to LT game pages rather than Steam game pages. Also fixes the issue with GOG games etc. :P

Reddit formatting is exactly as shown above:

* [Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams](http://store.steampowered.com/app/223220/Giana_Sisters_Twisted_Dreams/)

* --> This is a list item
[This is the Link text] (This is the Link destination) --> [Reddit](http://reddit.com)

So that's Markdown just like Steamgifts, no..?

Wedge (Lestrade's) uses BBCode, which is the 'old' standard, although I've been considering going for MD support in the future, if only as a plugin for Wedge, enabled by default on LT. (It would have to be in addition to BBCode because I don't really see myself writing a module to mass-convert existing BBCode in messages to MD, ah ah...)

(Then again, I've been known to be crazy like that, too.)

Also, does Barter support importing anything other than just regular lists of newline-separated game titles?
I suppose I could allow users to choose whether to generate a list with or without tags, of course...

It's markdown but you need an additional line break for it to work cleanly for multiple line items

I would prefer separate link choices, Steam / Lestrades. And the option to turn off links and just have the titles too.

So...

https://www.steamtrades.com/trade/Jw46q/h-steam-keys-w-steam-keys

This is my Steamtrades list, the 'Have' section is auto-generated by Lestrade's (except for the note at the beginning, which I felt like adding.)
Would you guys be happy with that..?

If yes, then I'll enable the export module for everyone.
That looks very nice and better than Barter's current export list.

Okay, I've enabled it. :)
Just go to your Tradables tab (haven't tested with wishlists for now), and click the 'Export' button. You'll be redirected to a new page, where you can simply click the 'Copy list to Clipboard' button and paste the contents into your 'Have' box at Steamtrades.

This could/should also work with Reddit, honestly I couldn't care less about Reddit but do tell me if it's not working correctly.

Just checked it: It's working perfectly for steamtrades and reddit.
Found 1 little bug: When exporting the wishlist, it also adds "redeemable on steam" as a header. Another text would probably be better.

Oh yes, I forgot to add to my changelog that I addressed your concern abotu 'redeemable', and instead went for 'Steam Gifts', 'Steam Keys' and other categories. Gone are the 'Redeemable' things.

Good to know that it's working on Reddit, too ;)

I've improved the export options, mostly allowing for a raw text export (check "Just the names!") that could/should be compatible with BVG, *and* a "BVG format" option that I can confirm is compatible with BVG, but requires an extra step. Go to BVG, Tradables (or Wishlist), Edit, then click the 'IDs' link near the top of the page. Enter the list of IDs there.

Of course, games will be imported without any tags[1]. It's not my job to write their import tool. Maybe someone can write a userscript to do that, I don't know.

PS: the 'just the names!' option is probably overkill, but I'm leaving it there for now. You never know, it might be useful for someone at some point.
 1. Nothing new here, tagging has always been needlessly complicated at BVG. I've decided to actually drop all of my tags on my BVG tradables, because I can't be bothered to update those manually.
