Separate board for ideas/bugs?!
« on March 29th, 2017, 01:19 PM »
Personally i'm not a big fan of topics with lots of pages. I like the idea of focused topics.

Example:
Code: [Select]
[bug] in 'matches' do not show empty brackets in case concrete numbers are missing

Maybe this would help to keep a clear overview.

Well, there *is* a separate board dedicated to discussions about the website... Even the name, "The Illustrious Idea", references the fact that it's for you guys to post your ideas or bug reports. ;)

Personally, as the developer, I consider that every minute spent doing 'forum work' (i.e. answering everything, compiling to-do's...) is a minute not spent on working on the site itself. I've already suggested that we build a two or three-level system where:
1/ Users send their suggestions and reports wherever they want (preferably where they belong...!),
2/ Volunteers gather the posts they consider should keep my attention, and repost them (content + permalink to original) somewhere in a locked topic where I can clearly consider them.
3/ I then post ideas/reports I wanted to do in priority in another locked topic.

I'm sorry, it's a new site after all, I'm still focusing 99% on development itself, and I was taken aback by the influx of new users & posts this month. I've been unable to behave as a community leader, and I need to set up a team of moderators who can give the forum some direction. (And possibly suggest more (or less!) boards to be created as needed.)

Thanks :)

This probably fits better in this thread.

The poll is the better idea. I am not fond of letting the moderators prioritise features as that should come straight from the community.
However you need help with the backlog. Maybe you need to start using Trello and put all the stuff there. We can vote for new features.
I'd recommend using something like Uservoice (www.uservoice.com) for feature suggestions over using a forum like we are doing now. Last I used it users got a limited amount of points (10 or so) they could allocate on features. This forces users to prioritize in which features are most important to them. And popular features automatically drift upwards.

Can do it that way of course.

1/ Users post ideas/reports
2/ Moderators post non-duplicates queries into a topic with a poll (editing the poll each time a new idea is added). Users can then vote for their preferred entries (something like 5 features max.),
3/ And from time to time, moderators bring the popular features to another to-do topic.

I'm not sure, however, that a 'different system' would be needed. I can assure you that I've handled feature requests on Wedge.org pretty well over the years. It's just that right now I'm so overwhelmed with real life + unexpected server move + severe lack of sleep.
