Items symbol explanation & showing items already owned or not
« on September 4th, 2018, 10:53 PM »Last edited on September 4th, 2018, 10:59 PM
Where can I find the help article about this site?
I don't understand some symbols beside game title in other's Trradables list like, ★ or ⇄.
Making explanations by hovering on symbols maybe?
And why can't this site show items already owned or not by me just like Barter.vg do(I'm using Chrome extension to make it show)?

It's a site-wide hint that indicates whether you own a game. Any game listed in the page... So if it's on someone else's tradables for instance, you can immediately see if you already own a game (or have it in your tradables or wishlist.)
The icons are exactly the same as in the banner (Matches, Wishlist, Tradables...), or even at barter.vg, which was the point to begin with (i.e. replacing Barter when it died for a month.)

Oh...  I think I get it.
Items with ★ are in my Wishlist and items with ⇄ are in my Tradables when I browse others' Tradables.

Thanks for quick reply.

BTW, the UI/UX style on this site is very enjoyable and smooth.
Much better than Barter.vg except not showing already owned items. >:(

Worst thing is, the barter admin did work in the last year to improve his code (notably matching speed-- while still very slowly, at least it's usable now), but this kind of neat idea I had has yet to be stolen by him-- even though it takes like, 10 minutes to implement maybe..?

What?!  Stolen?  Is there any story between these two sites?

No matter what, this site is really really much more user-friendly in UI/UX.
For example, I like the feel of "* Night & Day" very much!!!
I hope there will be more and more active users and offers soon!  :)

It's been well documented... Most of the 'things' happened in the Spring of 2017.
Basically Barter died out of the admin being MIA for a year and the site failing. I was working on a replacement site on a casual rhythm, with a better implementation, and had to open it in a hurry without every feature being available. Then the admin noticed my site and decided to come back the day after I opened it, and fixed his site, basically ruining the weeks of efforts I put into making LT's usable in time, lol. (Had there not been any issue, I'd have taken six more months to work on it casually, and it would have been better for it.)
Anyway, over the last year, I noticed that Barter improved matching speed (which was absolutely horrible before Lestrade's was opened, basically I think he simply added indexes on his main 'collection' table, which was sorely needed), and added a few of the features that are in Lestrade's.
Which is fine by me, because my original goal for Lestrade's was to be a 'proof of concept' that Barter needed an internal redesign (plus, many of the concepts in Lestrade's were taken directly from Barter since it was poised to be a replacement site once Barter broke down completely). I even considered giving away the code to Barter so he could redo his implementation using my better codebase, but ultimately I don't think it would have worked out.
So basically, there are two competitor sites now, I don't work on it much these days but I always fix bugs as they are found. Most of the bugs are in the scrapers, because if Steam or Steamspy or Barter or whatever site I scrape for my database decides to changes something in their data format, I'm not exactly 'warned' about it, and I have to find out by myself that things are broken. This is why the entire database is currently being refreshed for parent-child relationships (which was broken) and Steam store presence data (delisted, non buyable, etc.) Still having issues with the latter, but eh... What can I do. Also, I'm still desperate for Barter to finally disclose item type data (DLC, Demo, Trailer, Video, Episode...), because it was confirmed that kind of data is being recorded but I still have to manually fix everything and frankly I'm bored with it.
These days I mostly just check bundle data to make sure ITAD didn't screw it up again. (It's not ITAD's fault-- they're relying on their audience to submit bundle data, so sometimes bundles come out late and with broken items.) Not exactly the best job ever. Especially since I now recognize that Barter has the better bundle data (which is being entered by users as well, but they're way more careful than ITAD users when it comes to that.)

Main reason for the proof-of-concept. (But really, really, the biggest reason I wanted to have Lestrade's around was to implement the 'Takers' and 'Matches' sections under the banner in game pages. This feature is really fantastic and it's still not there at Barter, even though it'd take 5 minutes to implement.)

Yeah, it was also a proof of concept for Barter because their Night mode is really, really unusable.
I 'solved' it by taking my main theme CSS data and modifying colors on the fly before saving them in another CSS file. (There's an easy two-step algorithm for RGBA manipulation & brightness inversion.)

Looks unlikely, if you were to ask me.
Member involvement has been remarkably stable in the last 4 or 5 months, but it's still way behind Barter (about 5 times lower), meaning less frequently updated lists, meaning only a few dozen users (the big traders who come here on a daily basis) can safely be traded with. I always prioritize Lestrade's trades, but sometimes I have to just go to Barter and use that terrible interface.

Still, the silver lining: it's now very easy to maintain all of your lists at Lestrade's and export them in a few clicks to Barter, complete with all relevant tags. (Unfortunately, Barter doesn't support custom text in tags... Another proof of concept that will never make it over there.)

What I need is either for Barter to ask & reuse my codebase, or some good marketing team to draw more people to this site! Either way is fine with me-- although obviously, only the latter will give me motivation to add more features that are as good as the current ones.

Yes!  This is the most awesome feature I ever see!  10000 times better than Steamtrades.  XD
But I think Barter.vg contains similar function, doesn't it?  :hmm:

The Night mode in Barter.vg is a joke. A big one!
Not to mention its UI layout design.  Does the author really like that? XD

(Maybe some theme tweaking function for geeks in the future? XD)

LesTrade's is still young, isn't?  I think it takes time and ... some luck maybe.  :)

How about post some topics about this site on Steamgifts forum?
Better with some giveaways if you want some "sensational" marketing way. XD (But side-effect warned!)

I think most Steamgifts users need these sites like LT's or Barter.vg if they are using Steamtrades too.
LT's is much attractive and comfortable for a "human being" to use with PRO UI/UX & Full Functional Features.
And the Steamgifts forum is quite active these days. I think it may be a good start!

Wish you luck!

Yes, but you have to go to your wishlist, select the game from a dropdown and then ask for matches. It's much easier to do it from the game's page itself.

Well, I could add the ability to enable more skins, but it means more work for me, and would be used by very few people.
I'd suggest you use some browser plugin to allows you to customize your CSS on the site. ;)

I started work on it in the summer of 2016, opened it to the public in a hurry in March 2017, completed the main stuff in May 2017, and have been working regularly on the site since then... So yeah, it's over 2 years old now... Gosh, how time flies...

Self-publicity is frowned upon. I can only rely on excited users to do it for themselves (because, ultimately, the more users, the more opportunities to use the platform for yourself...)
Doesn't seem to be working, for now. ;)

I'm not interested in doing giveaways like some other sites do... (Yeah, I'm perfectly aware that keys for crappy Russian games can be gotten for like $20 per 1.000 keys, but isn't the market already drowned in shitty Russian game keys..? I'm not really interesting in gathering more users from the +1 crowd.)

Well, the forum section has a 'deals' subsection with bundle announcements, and these topics have links to Barter bundle links as well as Lestrade's bundle links-- but only when they're already up at the time. Which rarely happens, because I found no volunteers to fill in the bundle section for me, so I have to rely on ITAD scraping, and then fixing bad bundles by myself. (And I'll occasionally miss an error. But it's not a paid job, mind you.)

I know, but again... It's a great site because I spent so much time working on it. I'm more interested in improving it, than promoting it.
Especially since I gave up on it a few months ago, due to the general lack of user enthusiasm. I've now moved on to other projects, but I'm always there to fix bugs as they're pointed out to me. (And occasionally add new features, but sometimes I don't even bother to announce them... I'm actually working on some of those things like right.)

WOW~~  Long response!!!  Like it.  I'll read it later.

BTW, I had set the post to "Notify" status but I didn't get the notice about your newest comment(5 days ago XD) above.  Strange.

And, why there is no "Uplay,""Ubisoft store/key" or "Uplay key" tag?
(Eg: Rayman® Origins Uplay key from Humble Bundle Ubisoft Bundle)

Also, how do I make a quote like you did with user's name and time?

Really..? Did you get the notification in your bar, though?
I didn't write the code for e-mail notifications, only for the ones at the top of the page.

Because it's not a tag, it's the game page itself that's not the same... (Also, you CAN specifically force a Uplay store tag if you really can't find the game page for it.)
The game you'll add from the bundle page ("Add to tradables") should (normally) be set up as a Uplay entry, so that people don't find it too confusing.

Oh, it's a Wedge thing I wrote and no one else seems to be doing...
Just hold the Shift key when you press 'Enter' where you want to split a post.
It'll take all opened quotes into account, so you can avoid wrongly intertwined quotes.

There's just a tiny bug in my implementation that sometimes add an extra linebreak after the bottom quote tag, but you can fix it by removing the linebreak manually. I've never got around to looking into it... I think Wedge is still the only forum software in the world that has an easy 'quote splitter' like this.
