[Steam Store] Notable deals
« on June 1st, 2017, 11:30 PM »
Maybe a topic to post links of interest to Steam deals..? (Like, really, really unmissable prices for some popular games.)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/39550/SpellForce_2__Anniversary_Edition/

(I appreciate that Steam finally includes game titles in internal URLs... I should probably do it for our game pages, like I already do for forum topic titles.)

Game is at 1.5€ (-90%), by far the lowest price ever seen on Steam for it.

Also of note, "Chosen 2" (RPGmaker stuff) is a 0.5€, 90% off, but the game is closer to shovelware and is most likely to be bundled in an indiegala this year. (The first title was bundled already, and was even seen on sale below 0.25€ on Steam, so I'm probably waiting until this one's 95% off.)

So... In case you didn't hear (:P), the Steam Summer Sale is on.

I bought myself a few cheap games that I thought were good deals. It's pretty casual (it's my favorite genre), so there you go.

LPE = lowest price ever -- not guaranteed, but from memory at least... I've never seen these prices so low.

Thief: Deadly Shadows - 1.79€ (LPE)
MOAI: Build Your Dream - 0.69€ (LPE)
FATALE - 1.74€ (artsy indie)
Journal - 1.49€ (LPE)
A Vampyre Story - 2€ (LPE)
1979 Revolution: Black Friday - 2.4€ (LPE)
Virginia - 2.5€ (LPE)
Dreamcage Escape - 0.81€ (LPE)

Feel free to post games you'd like to recommend and that you think are good deals!
Out of those I posted above, a few are likely to be bundled this year (1979, virginia, Dreamcage), but that's okay-- I accumulated over 100€ to spend on this sale, and well, I'm gonna have a hard time finding more games to buy after this initial batch of good deals... :^^;:

Also took Treasures of Montezuma 5 (great series) and Claws & Feathers 2, through a bundle called 'Match Me' on their store pages. Cost me 0.83€ total IIRC... Not bad!

Hate it when it happens... ^^ MOAI 1 was also in a Steam bundle of which I had the rest, meaning I could have gotten it for 0.4€ instead of 0.7€... And I can't refund because I already farmed it. Ah well, could be worse, it could be in an Indiegala bundle next week. :P

Most of the Valve games have a serious discount. Just bought Left for Dead 1 and 2.

Oh... Indeed, new low for them, packaged at 3€ for both games, so 1.5€ per game.
My only issue is that I have no idea if these games are for me

I probably should focus on the Half Life Complete Bundle... It's 3€ for me, too, given that I already have HL2, but... I don't know if there's a point in buying those when I already have (like most people here) Black Mesa.

I haven't bought a single game since after day 1, still have close to 90€ on my wallet lol...
Hesitating between multiple expensive games, can't afford them all... Lego City Undercover, Xanadu Next, Fable Anniversary[1], Watch_Dogs 1, Dishonored 2 and Fallout 4 Season Pass...
Given that in this list I'm only likely to play 'soon' the Fallout 4 DLCs (because I've been delaying purchase for a year, hoping it'd go on sale for cheap, which it didn't... Bethesda bastards! And of course I paid the game full price and now it's cheaper than the meager DLC pack!), and possibly Lego City, Xanadu or Dishonored 2, I guess I should focus on those, but none of these 4 have reached their 'lowest possible price' potential, while Watch_Dogs 1 for instance is unlikely to drop in price anytime soon.

This is the kind of thing I both love & hate with Steam sales, ahah...

But there's a big difference this year-- no longer is it possible to accumulate Steam gifts for later retrade. That's really sad. All you can do is add them to your virtual tradables and hope you conclude a few trades before the end of the sale!
 1. This one's annoying 'cause it hasn't been on a strong sale in over a year and all prices now are like twice higher

So... No one found anything interesting in this time...? :(

Boring anecdote:
Watch_Dogs = 8.99€
Watch_Dogs Season Pass = 5.99€
Watch_Dogs Complete (= both) = 14.99€
8.99€ + 5.99€ = 9 + 6 - 0.02 = 14.98€

Any interesting deals in the Steam sale..?

Only found Elite: Dangerous so far. While it was in a 'special' sale a few weeks ago (which made me think it'd be a better deal than in the then-upcoming Christmas sale), turns out it's even cheaper now: 6.24€ for the base game, very acceptable. The Horizons season pass (with planetary exploration) is twice more expensive, though, 20€ if you want everything in a bundle.

Still, interesting stuff... I'll keep that on the side.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/598700/The_Vagrant/ -> The Vagrant, an Odin Sphere-like Chinese game which is well rated. It used to be ~12€ lowest price, but they dropped their base prices and are now at 2.4€ with 40% off. Nice. Their new publisher (SakuraGame) is well known for their overall strategy: release games at low prices, never bundle them (so far!), consistently drop prices on each new sale. So probably in a year it'll be half that price, but it's still acceptable I suppose.

Unrelated, Dragon Age Inquisition GOTY is currently 12€ on Origin. I'd have bought it, had I not had a good deal on the base game just a few weeks ago... :^^;: I'd feel like I did the trade for nothing, so I'm waiting until the GOTY drops price again.

PuzzleQuest, if you never bought it and you like Match-3, is currently only 1€. I'd recommend taking it. I wouldn't recommend Puzzle Quest Galactrix (game is boring as hell!), but it's also 1€, and it hasn't been on sale for an eternity.

Yonder is under 15€ now. It's still my #1 wishlisted game, so I'll probably end up taking it, just to support its developer, who needs it way more than Ubisoft, whom I foolishly bought Watch_Dogs from in the Summer sale, before they gave it away on Uplay... <_<

Will get back to you if I find more good things... Don't hesitate to share!

I like the price of Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition and System Crash....they are at the lowest price ever too, but these are games that are not likely to ever become really really cheap.....they are still about 6-7 euros each.

Torment is a recent release on steam, it'll probably reach -75% in the future or get bundled. I'm wishing for it because the original is one of my favorite games ever (and I played it very late, like in 2010!), But I already have it in retail + gog (non remastered). I'll probably buy it though.

System crash I didn't know, looks cool, I'm wishlisting it. Thanks!

Note: system crash is at humble store... meaning that, as an indie, it's very likely to be bundled at some point. I'll wait.

My purchases so far...
- The Last Dogma: overwhelmingly negative ratings, but I like the concept, and the game is at 0.69€ and I farmed three cards which total more than 1€ in value. I'll get back to you when I sell them, lol.
- Conception II, a "naughty Persona" game. I've always wanted to play a Persona game, might as well play a naughty version. :P 8€ right now.
- Stories: The Path of Destinies, I mentioned it when it was under $2 at HB last month, now it's at 1.5€/$1.5 on Steam, which was enough to make me get it (Steam wallet = card farming money exclusively = why not, hey!)
- Prince of Persia (the late 2000's version, Uplay-free.) This game has been derided for being too easy, and that's exactly why I decided to buy it (I don't have time to redo the same level 10.000 times.) 3.4€, lowest price in years.
- The Vagrant, couple bucks, halfway between a Metroidvania and Valkyrie Profile... I'll take it!
- Sevens Seas Solitaire, because I buy anything with 'casual' and 'pirate game' slapped on them. Plus, great reviews. 3€, if you're not a fan, you should probably wait until it's bundled.
- A Tale of Caos: Overture, a retro point & click, under a buck, no-brainer for me. Probably bundled soon, I don't know, but it's still worth supporting the studio.
- Noximilian the Clockmaker: bought (0.7€, lowest price ever) just so I could post a review of it. I just love that French/Japanese short movie, and I'd suggest you look up Masaaki Yuasa's works. ;) (Kaiba is one of my favorite shows, ever.)

I think that's all for now... About 20€ well spent, I'd say.

Likely future purchases:
- Fortune Summoners for 3€ (it's an old 2D side-scrolling JRPG, I played it a bit and it's nice. If you don't have other games from their publisher, buy the bundle, it's worth it, all the games are good.)
- Odyssey (a science game, à la Myst), it's a first part only but it's tempting to reward indie studios that take risks with educational software. 6€.
- A Timely Intervention, from Aldorea (Aldorlea?), it's an RPG Maker game but I love RPGs with a time-travel twist. Unfortunately, nothing can come close to Chrono Trigger, but they can always try. ;) Relatively unlikely purchase though, as it's 2.5€ and I have a feeling before a year we'll see it under a buck. Then again, waiting a year just to save a buck..? Who cares? Also, this studio isn't bundle-oriented.
- Elite Dangerous, as discussed earlier. Still wondering whether to take the base game only. I know I'm unlikely to play it, as I prefer my space games to have a ground exploration component first-- and even then, I tend to get bored quickly.
- Yonder, as discussed earlier.
- My Tribe, okay, I'm a casual game guy after all... Still, 3.5€ for a mixed review game is a bit much.
- Fable Anniversary, always hoping it'll get bundled or get in a better sale. Seriously, this game was sold under 5€ on Steam and suddenly they decided a year ago that they'd never sell it under 8€ again. Ouch... I'm not in a hurry, I have the original PC version in my account.
- Planescape: Torment Enhanced, as discussed earlier.
- The Town of Light, a psych-horror walking simulator not based on jump scares, more interested in 'psych' than 'horror'. Still a bit expensive at 6.5€, but another worthy 'indie studio support' endeavor.
- Lostwinds 2, because, well I don't know, I got the first one...?! 2€ is still a bit expensive, and it might get bundled in the future.
- Vampire Bloodlines is solidly back at 5€ on sale (like on Black Friday), after being outrageously overpriced for over a year in sales. I'm still not sure it's worth 5€ though, especially after the horror stories I heard about the game bugs... (Plus, it's old! So old that they have a Lacuna Coil song in their soundtrack! Don't get me wrong, I love Lacuna Coil, but I listened to them when I was in my twenties!!)
- Shiness is around 10€. Sweeter price for a French action-RPG that seems nice. Not convinced about the arena system though, and possibly put off by the project lead as well (as in, I find him too amateurish & obnoxious to be worth supporting.)
- Soma is at 5.6€... Game came back on my radar when I heard they added a combat-free experience for people who prefer walking simulators. Should have bought when it was bundled, ah well... Anyone wanna gift their HB version to me? :P
- Ray Gigant, another JRPG + visual novel, mixed reviews though, so even at a low price (4.2€), I'm not sure whether to buy now or not.

I still have about 20 more games I'm thinking of buying, but these are the ones I'm most likely to take. Steam wallet isn't infinite, either.

How about you guys...? And be sure to tell me if I made you want to buy one of those games, too! ;)

I'm looking really hard at Odyssey. I was a Myst fanatic as a kid and it gives off those kind of vibes. The science thing makes me want it even more. I did take advantage of the sale to finish off my kid's Half-Life spinoff collection. Everything that he didn't have yet came to $3 and change.

Myst likes are pretty rare these days so I tend to support them.
Quern is supposed to be good, but it's too expensive for now. Cyan's obduction is good, u bought it this summer. There are others but I forgot.
Again I'll plug Yonder which, while light on puzzles, is really satisfying on exploration. Great little universe. Main story is cool.
