Do tradables expire?
« on September 10th, 2021, 08:43 AM »
It's been a while since I last updated my tradables list, but last time I did, I had more than 300 games listed. I just went to update it and only have 67. Do tradables expire? Is this a bug? Can I recover them somehow?

Yes, they expire after something like 6 months. This is to keep the database lean & clean, and avoid having outdated ratios coming from users who left long ago.

However, don't fret -- the only tradables that actually expire are those that you imported from BVG, if you used the import tool. Any tradables added manually here are safe from being removed. If you want to recover your tradables, you can simply re-import them from BVG. It'll also have the added benefit of being up to date.

I entered them all manually, though. I don't know what BVG is.

Update: I was able to bulk add the missing games back to my list. I also figured out that BVG is barter.vg, although I've never used it, so I don't know why my games expired.

Yeah, it's not normal... My code specifically checks for tradables that were marked as being imported automatically from BVG. It will never remove anything that was entered manually here. BTW, I'm seeing 380 tradables in your list... Are you sure you're talking about tradables?

Either way... I usually wouldn't shoot myself in the foot willingly, but still, I would suggest you export your tradables to BVG format (there's a tutorial for that because there's a learning curve), then import them over there, and you'll probably have more potential trades. Lestrade's never reached the number of users needed to make it sustainable as a trading site (I was really hopeful for that back in 2017, but I've moved on from that), so I simply use it myself as a clearer, cleaner way to manage my tradables (which were all entered here and never deleted automatically), since BVG is targeted towards trading and not maintaining lists in a friendly way. Then I occasionally export them to BVG to get offers.

I had 380 because I had manually re-entered all of them. They've disappeared again, and it's now at 66. (Actually, I need to remove some of those, so it'll be less in a moment.)

Wishlists imported from Steam (only those) expire after several months if the account is unused, yes.
As for tradables, I think there's something about them too. My goal was just to avoid ghost accounts, and tradables aren't deleted if entered manually, really. Are you sure you entered them manually here..?
Generally you can reimport from Barter, if you have an account over there.

I definitely entered them manually, along with them ones that didn't expire. It's weird that some of them expired and some didn't. I finally set up an account at Barter, per your advice in the previous comment, and am trying that.

It really shouldn't. My code clearly labels manually entered tradables as protected.
Barter is better for trading because there are more users (and mostly only because of that. I really don't like the UX for that site I'm afraid.)
