The Illustrious Idea / Re: Blacklist support
« on February 21st, 2017, 11:35 PM »
Reminds me that that undocumented API has 'recommended tags' in it... Apart from a couple tags like '2D' (which I'm not specifically fond of over 3D), it's often an accurate representation of what I like. It could be used as a basis for a tag sort filter on LT.

Too bad it's so complicated to get that data outside of using a userscript or Chrome extension... :(

Well, profiles only have the basic info (i.e. your Steam level which I'm getting at the same time as your library anyway), because there's really not much of a reason to show more as long as you can't do offers on LT.

- Steam profile link, SteamRep, Steamtrades: I guess I can add those, yes. Doesn't require storing anything else than what's already there... (Also I can do Barter page link.)
- Stats: for Barter? I store those. Any use though..? I don't know. For LT? Can't send trades yet. :( I still haven't decided if the trade stats should start from zero or from whatever data is on Barter. I'm not a big fan of starting from 0 when I'm in the top 20 traders on Barter, but then again it'd probably make more sense to consider Barter as a rep provider, and start from 0 for LT.

Thanks :)
Now all's left to do is (1) rebuild the offer system, (2) wait until we reach enough users for LT to be self-sustained, (3) rewrite the scraper to use the Steam store instead of Barter, (4) disable auto-syncing with Barter, (5) enjoy.
Just hoping it won't take too long... :-/ especially step 2. I think 500 regular users is a bare minimum to the site to be viable outside of a 'companion' site.

I've decided I have better things to do with my life than fight over blacklists and how to name them, so here they are, in all their glory, Barter blacklists... :P

I could ask the server to retrieve all data now, but I'll just wait until it does it by itself, for the 1:30pm update.
BTW because there are now 3 pages to retrieve instead of 2, the scraping process might take 45min instead of 30. We'll see how it goes!

Fix to search engine: autofocus is now only enabled on the homepage, because further pages sometimes use form controls (drop downs etc.) that might get disrupted by the autofocus on the search input.

I was thinking, instead of a list-- maybe a custom tag, such as may keep..? Like, allow for matches on your side but not on anyone else's? That would probably be more useful...

Okay so here are my issues with blacklist:
- I don't like the name. I feel it's too negative. I was thinking of 'Do not offer', but it's too long. Ideas?
- barter automatically adds games to your blacklist too easily, e.g. reply with do not want or already own (I think). Can be solved by adding reply options that specifically add to BL.
- main problem for me: some people have already added games to their blacklist by mistake. They're still in their wishlist but you can't make an offer on them. Not syncing with barter means resetting all that crap. Solution: automatically remove from imported blacklist any games in your wishlist? Or set wishlist to x0?

As for steam's, yeah there's no api I know of. you can however import them through a user specific api call that requires manual intervention. It's also the only way to add dlcs and packages to you library. Still it's very hackish, as it requires copy pasting jumbled code from a text area to another. Can't be automated as I said, as the steam website doesn't allow for cross domain requests, probably for the best.

I just think that blacklisting games is overrated. As you say, it requires too much work. Wouldn't it be simpler to just blacklist tags..? (Or tag combinations.)

Oh yes, forgot to repost...
No game tag search for now!

NEW FEATURE: Game search engine is enabled!

I hope you enjoy it. It's an auto-suggest search, à la Google, meaning it doesn't have an intermediary page (for now at least). As a consequence, you can't see the nice little banners for the first few games, like Barter does. However, you also get your results immediately, and from the moment you type lestrades.com into your address bar, the website ensures you can directly type the name of the game you want, then press the Down arrow, then Enter, and there you go. No mouse needed.

Another minor consequence is that you can't directly scroll through the page when you reach it. If you insist on browsing with your keyboard, you can use the PgUp/PgDown keys, or just click outside the input area, or press the Tab key twice. (And please tell me you do, so that I can focus on improving that.)

- The feature you're talking about is already on LT (go to a game page, click on the 'Matches' link below the game's banner), *and* Barter (go to your wishlist, match, and then select the game in the drop-down select box -- it's still VERY slow of course, I'm just saying the option is there.)

- I was working on a 'collapser', but I haven't made progress because I'm trying to determine whether to allow permanently hiding someone, and whether or not their list should be taken into account (i.e., should I show them collapsed and then you can choose to expand their list, or should I just do as if they were ignored, and not even try to match against them?)

Doing my best!

Search engine is now working, I'll put it live once I'm happy with it.

CURRENT BUG: the SSL certificate was invalidated by making a minor change in some settings. Unfortunately this is a bug that's not on my side, and I can't fix it. And because of timezones, Alex isn't around to do it, and won't be for a few more hours.

Please bear with me, and just accept the certificate when the popup comes up. Or just don't use the website for a few hours if you can't trust it.

o.O I didn't see this at night, probably I was checking before sync this particular game ^^ Thanks theemu
Actually it was buggy on my side, I fixed it earlier today.

@Alex, I don't get your question. If you're simply asking to save a click and send offers on Barter without going through the Tradable Match with an invididual user, it's probably doable, I just wouldn't recommend it because people need to see whether they already have a trading/offering history with the user.

- Avatars: this is a current limitation. I should probably just remove those options manually (from the source code). You should be able to reset your avatar by logging off.
- Timezone: go to your profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout.
- Percentages: another detail I forgot to change during the move. And yes, as Alex pointed out, it was calculated against the real number of members here, rather than the number of members on Barter. ;)

I should also look into notifications. For some reasons I'm not getting any either. I didn't enable them in Profile > Notifications > Emails and Messages (or something), because I only want website notifications (top left of the page has a number, is currently 0...) but it's not working. Probably a setting I didn't correctly initialize.
We have time, we have time! At least the main attraction of this website is doing its job fine. :P
